Outdoor Furniture Care & Maintenance

At Adriatic, we exclusively handpick the finest materials to ensure comfort, style and quality. So, you can sit back and relax on our outdoor and lifestyle furniture knowing that it’s built to last.

Simply follow our maintenance and care tips to ensure it continues to look great for years to come.

Teak

We source high quality, sustainably harvested solid teak that can withstand the harsh effects of severe Australian weather and pests without diminishing its durability or appearance. Teak is virtually maintenance-free and can be left outside all year round. New teak will experience a natural maturing process, and over time if left untreated in the rain or direct sunlight, it will turn a silver-grey. This process is simply cosmetic and does not damage the wood.

Cleaning

Teak is protected by its natural oils that migrate to the surface, making the wood virtually waterproof, and as such, it is extremely low maintenance. In fact, left in its natural state, teak is virtually maintenance-free. However, to maintain the colour and vibrancy for years to come, we recommend applying a super cleaner or teak sealer each season. Then, a simple clean with water and a pH-neutral soap will ensure your furniture appears brand new.

Use of Oil & Varnish

Using varnish and other oil (especially Linseed Oil) can harm your furniture and may require forceful sanding to remove effectively. Oiling teak does not prevent the wood from greying and may cause mould and mildew to form on the surface. Instead, we recommend using a Teak Protector, to protect the surface from stains, mildew and dirt.

Storage

It is best to store your teak furniture in a water-tight garden shed or garage, as sudden changes in temperature and humidity may cause your teak to split. It is not recommended that you move your outdoor furniture directly into a heated indoor space.

Sunbrella Fabrics

Sunbrella fabrics are globally renowned for their high-quality characteristics including mould and mildew resistance, UV and fade resistance, and bleach-cleanable fabrication. We do not recommend using steam on Sunbrella fabric. Instead, if the fabric has some wrinkling, simply use an iron on its synthetic setting.

1.Brush off loose dirt.
2.Spray on a cleaning solution of water and mild soap.
3.Use a soft bristle brush to clean.
4.Allow the cleaning solution to soak into the fabric.
5.Rinse thoroughly until all soap residue is removed.
6.Air dry.

Hand Washing
1.Soak fabric in a solution of 1/4 cup mild soap per litre of lukewarm water.
2.Use a sponge or soft bristle brush to gently agitate the spill.
3.Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue and allow the fabric to air dry.
Machine Washing
1.Ensure all zippers are closed.
2.Machine wash in cold water on the delicate cycle with a standard amount of mild laundry detergent.
3.For severe mould or mildew, add one cup of bleach.
4.Allow fabric to air dry.

1.Prepare a solution of 1/4 cup mild soap per litre of lukewarm water.
2.Use a soft bristle brush to clean, allowing the cleaning solution to soak into the fabric.
3.Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue.
4.Allow fabric to air dry.
Seam-to-Seam Cleaning:
When cleaning upholstered furniture, ensure that you clean the entire surface area of the fabric, from seam to seam, instead of rubbing the fabric in a circular motion on the spill. This method, along with a cleaning extractor, is the most effective way to ensure that no residue or water rings remain on your upholstered furniture.

Sunbrella fabrics are mould or mildew resistant, however, mildew may grow from dirt or other foreign substances if it is not removed effectively.
1.Prepare a solution of one cup of bleach and 1/4 cup of mild soap per litre of water.
2.Spray on the entire area and allow to soak into the fabric for 15 minutes.
3.Clean the entire surface area with a sponge, clean towel, or very soft bristle brush.
4.Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue.
5.Air dry.

All Adriatic chairs with slings are created with Ferrari Batyline mesh, a high-quality French fabrication distinguished by its durability. Batyline mesh is 100% synthetic, allowing a maximum stretch of 5% and a strong resistance to rot and mildew, with an ability to withstand harsh Australian weather.

Slings can be cleaned easily and effectively with the following method.

  1. Prepare a solution of 1:16 mild detergent to lukewarm water. (Ensure that the water is less than 40” C.)
  2. Soak the sling thoroughly in the cleaning solution, gently agitating with a sponge or soft bristle brush, removing any ingrained build-up.
  3. Once cleaned, rinse off any remaining cleaning solution with cold water.
  4. Allow to air dry.

Note: It is acceptable to use a pressure hose on a low setting to remove any leftover foam, as leaving soap residue in between the fibres can attract dirt. However, ensure that you avoid any teak components in the furniture design, as the high pressure can erode the surface of the timber.

A selection of Adriatic’s outdoor and lifestyle range is made using German Akzo Nobel Charcoal Powder Coated Stainless Frames. The stainless steel is sandblasted and then coated with German Akzo Powder Coatings, resulting in a seamless appearance that is highly impervious to corrosion, water-resistant and easy to clean.

Some products in our range feature powder-coated aluminium, designed specifically for outdoor furniture. The powder coating is electrostatically charged and then baked and cured onto the aluminium. The result is a stylish, corrosion-resistant new addition to your backyard.

Maintenance & Care Tips

  1. Gently clean with water, a mild liquid detergent and a microfibre cloth to remove any grime.
  2. Remove surface water with a drying cloth, to avoid water spots.
  3. Avoid any abrasive cleaning agents, steel wool or Scotchbrite on powder-coated surfaces.
  4. Avoid contact with heat, bird droppings, liquid and direct sunlight.

Many items in our range feature the globally-renowned, premium synthetic weaving material, Raucord. This completely weather-proof material is manufactured with precise German engineering technology to offer strength and flexibility – preventing sagging, cracking and breaking.

Raucord is easy to maintain. The highly durable wicker is resistant to chlorine, salt water, and tanning lotions and oils, allowing for plenty of poolside action.

Maintenance & Care Tips

  1. Prepare a solution of 1:16 mild detergent to lukewarm water. (Ensure that the water is less than 40” C.)
  2. Soak the wicker thoroughly with the cleaning solution, gently agitating with a sponge or soft bristle brush to remove any ingrained dirt.
  3. Once cleaned, rinse off any remaining cleaning solution with cold water.
  4. It’s important to remove all traces of foam from the wicker, as it can form a residue in the gaps in-between the weave which can attract dirt.
  5. Dry any splashes on teak or metal frames to prevent water marks.

Note: It is acceptable to use a pressure hose on a low setting to remove any leftover foam. However, ensure that you avoid any teak components in the furniture design, as the high pressure can erode the surface of the timber.

Adriatic uses UQD-Urecel Quick Dry internal foam cushions. This advanced, high-performing foam is perfect for outdoor furniture, promoting quick drainage and air circulation.

Urecel Quick dry foam has been specifically designed for outdoor use in residential locations. Unlike conventional foam, quick dry foam drains quickly allowing the cushions to dry fast even after being saturated while protecting it against mould growth. This is thanks to the open-cell structural makeup which allows water and air to easily pass through the material. Another advantage of using quick dry foam cushions is that they can remain considerably cleaner than conventional foam cushions. Dirt, dust and irritants can get trapped in the structure of traditional foam which is almost impossible to get out. When dirt is noticeable on quick dry cushions, it can be easily cleaned with a light hose down. The cushions can then be placed in a well-ventilated area to dry out.

Quick dry foam is a highly resilient and durable material and is recommended if you want to leave your outdoor furniture outside exposed to the elements all year round. In the event your cushions are exposed to the wet, it is advised you tip them on their side and all the water to run directly out of the cushions.
