Blackwood Timber Information Guide

Blackwood Timber Information Guide

With its elegant, subtle beauty, it’s easy to see why Blackwood is one of Australia’s most popular hardwoods. Grown in the eastern states, its rich, golden brown heartwood makes it an ideal choice for sophisticated, stylish furniture.

To make sure your Blackwood furniture continues to look its very best, be sure to regularly dust it with a soft cloth as well as giving it an occasional wipe with a slightly damp cloth. Make sure that any spills or potential stains, such as red wine, are immediately ‘mopped’ up and the timber dried with a soft, clean cloth.

As with all timber, where possible, try to avoid placing your Blackwood furniture in rooms where it will be in constant direct light or areas where there is dampness, changing temperatures or a source of constant heat, such as a heater.

As Blackwood timber is a natural product, every item made from it is unique and will have individual characteristics. Features such as colour variations, veins, knots, grain, cracks, splits, stress marks, nicks, indentations and bows are not considered faults in any way; instead, they enhance the furniture, expressing its origins and vestiges of its past life.

It should also be noted that these characteristics will develop or evolve over time – all timber experiences some movement and change of appearance over the years. However, while its appearance can alter over time, the unique character and beauty of Blackwood will always remain.

Whilst in use, we highly recommend preventative measures (such as coasters, placemats and/or tablecloths) to better protect the surface of the timber from scratches and markings.
