Regular, Normal Wear and Usage

Regular, Normal Wear and Usage

Your Adriatic furniture purchase, is your investment in your home. With time and as your furniture adapts to your home, you will see variation in colour, shape and characteristic.

Important Information In Caring For Your Furniture

  • Do NOT move your fabric furniture by the arm or head rests.
  • Remember to rotate your cushions, and to vacuum your fabric furniture regularly.
  • Always place your furniture away from direct sunlight and heat sources as this may result in fading and heat or fire damage.
  • Always attend to any spillages, ink marks or stains immediately to prevent from ‘setting in’. Absorb any spillages into a dry cloth and avoid rubbing.
  • Ensure your pets keep off your furniture at all times to avoid damage.
  • Never sit on your furniture with wet or non-colourfast clothing, particularly after swimming either at the beach or in pools as this may severely damage your fabric or result in colour/dye transfer, which is exempt from this program.
  • Always pre-test Adriatic approved Leather &  Fabric Care products in an inconspicuous area to ensure colour fastness and that the products do not adversely affect the fabric.
  • It is important to report any accidental damage immediately

We have also outlined below some of the features you should come to expect with the natural changes of your furniture.

Leather & Fabric Sofas and Chairs.

When you first receive your fabric or leather Sofa, you may notice slight compression of the foam and padding. With use and over time these compression marks should gradually subside.

Moreover the foam, padding and suspension of your lounge will lose resiliency and soften over time and this occurrence should not be confused with loss of resiliency. This softening may cause light creasing, wrinkling or slight stretching in the high usage areas. This is a completely normal occurrence which only enhances the look and feel of your Sofa. We recommend that you rotate your seating position to even the wear of the cushions to create an even softening or wrinkling.

Solid Timber Tables, Buffets and Cabinets

At Adriatic Furniture we use a range of solid timbers.

As timber is natural material every product made from it will be unique. Variations in colour, veins, knots, grain, cracks, splits, stress marks, blemishes and indentations from the growth history of each tree are common and in some cases bowing may occur. These characteristics are all normal, should not be considered a fault in anyway and are expected to develop over time.

Information on Puddling

All leather & fabric upholstery will stretch as a result of being sat in. The recovery rate of this stretching will vary, typically the amount of unrecovered stretch is up to 15% as a guide. This may vary across the different of types of leathers, fabrics and upholstery styles and techniques. Factors which contribute to the amount of puddling are the size of the panels, large panels verses smaller segmented panels, the density & type of foam, type of suspension (webbing / no sag springs) and the amount of weight placed on the high usage areas.

Puddling is most common in the seat and back sections as a result of being sat in, compressed and the amount of compression or downward travel in the seat or back cushions. It is expected that puddling would / could occur from the initial use period and is not something that will occur down the track with use. Once puddling has occurred it would not be expected that it would continue to increase (past the initial period) as the amount of stretch is directly related to the amount of use and compression. The only way the puddling would increase is if a higher level of compression was experienced. With regard to the recovery rate (indoor) climatic conditions can have an effect colder conditions can reduce the amount of recovery and warmer conditions can improve recovery.

It must be remembered that leather is a natural product and each hide is different in its fibre structure and grain appearance coupled with different tanning processes these all have an effect on how the leather responds to use. This is not a fault with the leather – it is a good sign of manufacturing as large pieces of leather are used
